I know there are many places you can buy your 7D: B&H, Adorama or Abe's of Maine - among the best sources. But they are always very close in price. I recently did something I didn't believe I would do and that is I ordered from Amazon. I got the camera (body only) for 1,472.92 and then got free financing for 12 mos. That essentially is the only thing that was different...but I was looking for a deal: lower price, they all have free basic shipping and no tax, but there werent any rebates out yet or "loyalty coupons that worked. So overall this was the best deal for me.

Just thought I would share the info so if your looking for a new 7D there is another option to consider.

And by the way, I got the camera just the other day and absolutely love it. Great transaction by Amazon.

Congrats on the new body :) I buy from Amazon all the time. As long as it's Amazon (and not 3rd party) it's always great.

Add to your list of good places to buy, BuyDig / BeachCamera -- they occasionally have good deals.

For example, the 7D is now $1448 at BuyDig, you can compare the lowest prices (external link) here.

I read that Canon is offering an "instant" rebate of $200 on 7D cameras on Feb 20, 2011. B&H photo currently has the 7D listed at $1479, so I plan on checking back on 2/20 to see if it is indeed $200 less. Amazon is currently out of stock. I feel confident with all the merchants you listed as well.

Why the initial hesitation to buy from Amazon (products sold and shipped by/from Amazon)? Free 2 Day shipping, no tax and easy return policy. I use them all the time (don't think I've ever bought from their 3rd party vendors).

the only thing about Amazon is their free super slow shipping, unless you have amazon prime.

I don't purchase from Amazon 3rd party vendors, but I initially only purchased from "camera stores online" such as B&H and Amazon. I have even purchased an L lens from PMI digital on ebay and have good results. I now am in the habit of: "If I haven't heard of the vendor before, I look up others experiences - ratings - before buying from them. I have purchased from Amazon for a long time, just never electronics. Books, movies, dvds, etc. They are a great source.

It will likely be $1,679, if not more, before the $200 rebate.

It's likely. Look what happened during the 7D "rebate" in October. Do you think prices will come down to the $1300 level so quickly?

That's exactly why I'm going to check. Right now it's listed at $1699 on Canon's site, so the $1479 price on B & H is already $200 less. Rather confusing, isn't it? I'm thinking seriously of ordering one, but the $200 rebate would certainly push me off the fence.:)

Thanks for the information. I've read a bit about the CLP, but I read that you have to trade in a camera in order to qualify and I think I'd be better off to try to sell my present camera, which is a 50D in pristine condition with only 1350 actuations. I haven't used it much and I want a camera that can take video. The refurb offerings on Canon's site are priced at $1359 and I assume that there would be tax ($127). If I get a new one from B&H or Amazon, there wouldn't be any tax.

Buy a broke one off ebay for $10 or so, and trade it in. Refurbs through CLP are around $1100 + tax. Keep your 50D as a second body.
