I am new to photography (12 months) and would appreciate comments good and bad on my attempt at these two photos taken yesterday, both birds are actually half the size in real life compared to the photos, Many thanks

Canon 50D + 100-400mm 4.5 - 5.6

First image = Exposure Time = 1/800"
F Number = F5.6
Exposure Program = Shutter priority
ISO Speed Ratings = 320
Subject Distance = 5.46m
Metering Mode = Partial
Flash = Flash did not fire, compulsory flash mode
Focal Length = 400mm
Exposure Bias Value = ±0EV
Max Aperture Value = F5.66

Second image = Exposure Time = 1/640"
F Number = F6.3
Exposure Program = Shutter priority
ISO Speed Ratings = 160

Exposure Bias Value = ±0EV
Max Aperture Value = F5.66
Subject Distance = 6.64m
Metering Mode = Partial
Flash = Flash did not fire, compulsory flash mode
Focal Length = 400mm

Nicely done, the first is wonderful.second not so sharp, but lovely as well..I usually use 320-400 ISO on birds, just because they are fast, and tend to get in the light you don't want.lol...

Excellent shots - both. You could try and see if a crop eliminating the burnt (?) part of the log on the second one would improve it. It tends to distract I feel.
