I'm still waiting for the 17-55 f/2.0 they were talking about a while ago.

The IQ of the 17-55mm 2.8 is L and then some. The build really is lousy. I hope Canon addressed the dust issue in designing the new lens.

Actually, the 17-55IS build is fine for most users. Canon does need to kick the dust issue though. Weathersealing would be nice to match the 7D...

If that rumor ever comes true, count me in. The extra stop of aperture would be a serious improvement to the 17-55IS. As a current 17-55 owner, I wouldn't be interested in a 15-60 f/2.8.

It might save me from purchasing a UWA. Yeah there's a big difference between 15 and 10, but it's still better than 18.

OTOH:

  • it would probably cost as much as a 17-55 plus a nice UWA.
  • it probably won't be very small/light.
  • a 17-55 f/2 plus a UWA would be more versatile

Image editing and C&C always OK

If Canon would release this now mythical lens i would definitely purchase it for my crop body since it would have the latest IS technology & build quality of the current 15-85 not to mention the constant f2.8

No doubt it would be around $1200.

Regards, ;)

Not goind to buy it unless it's weather sealed and is optically as good as the 17-55. Canon needs sealed EF-S lenses to complete the seal on 7D. Having the 17-55 isgreat but the non sealed standard main lens makes the sealed body pointless.

Canon please do your job right.

No kidding. f/2.0 zoom with IS would be nuts.
