I dropped my 35L!!!

I was doing an e-shoot today and tragically, my 35L rolled off a table and bounced (yes, that's the only word for it) a few times off the marble floor. The glass isn't cracked and it seems okay mechanically, but it's definitely not as sharp as it was. I checked micro focus with two cameras and while it's off just a little, the center of the actual field of focus is not as sharp as it used to be.

Soooo, the obvious question; can anyone offer me some sort of idea of what Canon might charge for the repair?

Don't know but anything they touch approx costs $200.

I can't help you, but I will say that I'm sorry that had to happen to such a magnificent lens. Why doesn't this happen to the Nifty Fifties?

Cause they are so light that they will actually pick up an airflow underneath them and sustain flight for a long enough time for it to land safely.

Shame to hear something like that happened to such a good lens. I guess the L build comes through when it doesn't crack when hitting a marble floor.

It probably does, but no one bothers to ask what it would cost to fix; they just go buy a new one!

Would it not make more sense to ask Canon to quote for fixing it? no-one here is going to have an accurate picture of how much it'll cost...

I don't know how much Canon will charge, but definitely send it in.

I'm going to check with Canon tomorrow, but experience has taught me that they won't say; I'll just get the usual "send it in". Just curious if anyone has had similar (though admittedly undefined) work done.

It does (all the time) and they break in half.

I thought it's because it happens to Nifty fifties, so that's why the sale for the nifty fifty is so strong.

Send it in and let canon check. I mean if you dont send in, what else you can do? Maybe bring it to a local camera store to fix? May be send to Keh? Best option is still let canon handle it. Anyhow, No one can give you a quote until somone can physcially evaluate the problem with the lens. Good luck

If you bug them enough about it, they'll tell you a general range over the phone. A lot of people have had luck doing this by calling the irvine center direct.

Or if you plead and say that you are a broke student... I got an exact number on my LCD repair.

So sorry to hear any your 35 L. Hope nothing major happen.
